Evaluation 7

LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK (the continuity editing task), WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO FULL PRODUCT?

Looking back from my original preliminary task I have learnt and improved my skills on the planning, filming and editing.

I have learnt from planning things out you will get more done and concentrate on certain shots and how to film in the right place and locations and thinking more about how the film will look.

With the filming side of things I have learnt it is very important on where you place the camera and how to get the right shots for the appropriate times to get the most out of an reaction. You need to consider the audience and how they will view your film because it is always different from filming your film and knowing how you want the audience to see it from them actually watching it and not understand what is happening.

Some Planning and Filming Shots

I have learnt how to film shots properly like close up, extreme shots, long shots, medium shots and how to get a steady camera shot without things shaking and using the right timings.  Overall I think I have learnt a lot more from when I did my Preliminary Task.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

When I produced and edited my Opening Sequence I used a variety of equipment and technology software to make sure that it could achieve its best. Most of the equipment and software that I used was not used before so working with it quite a lot has now taught me how to do things quicker when using them.
Equipment that was used:
1. Apple Mac
2. Tripod
3. Video Camera
4. Camera
5. Adobe Premiere Pro CS3

When using the Apple Computers I picked up on skills that I already had because I have been using Apple computers for a long time. Using the computer was the easy part but it was getting familiar with the Adobe Premiere Pro that took some time because i Had never used it before.

The Camera that I used was much more of an advanced one than what I would usually use so this took some time to get used to. I had to practice with it first before I used it for my opening sequence. I learnt from using a tripod when filming makes it much easier to keep a steady hand and it enabled me to film so high and low angle shots with out the camera look like it was shaking. It is important to have a steady shot because it makes it look more real and not just someone filming like a documentary.

There are now many things that I am able to do with the camera like adjusting the sound properly, zooming, being able to adjust the light.

Adobe Premiere Pro was the main focus for when I was editing the my Opening Sequence

WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

For my Opening Sequence my target audience would be teenagers. My Film is about a girl getting stalked by a boy and things like this happen in real life, so it could related to teenage girls. It can also relate teenage boys because it can show how people get angry and frustrated by relationships such as the one i have shown in my opening sequence. I wanted to make a film that is relevant and does happen in the real world.

Name: Hannah Batley
Age: 15
Music: All types
TV programmes: Skins, Shameless, Inbetweeners, The Hills etc.
Film: Scary, Comedy, Romantic
Enjoys: Dancing, parties and just chilling.

I asked. Did the film relate to her?
Yes, it did relate to me. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before but it just shows that you have to be careful with who you talk to and what you put on the internet, such as facebook, formspring and twitter.

Evaluation - Question 2

HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA REPRESENT KEY SOCIAL GROUPS

 My Opening Sequence

 When a Stranger Calls

For this part of my evaluation I am comparing the main character in my film Lily Budd to one of the characters in a film similar to mine "When a Stranger Calls". They are both similar especially in this picture because they are getting stalked by a man who has lost his temper and is frustrated.

Lilys character in my opening sequence is just a normal girl who goes out comes home and is relaxed and chilled. She is the main character in the film because it is based around a girl and a phone and we do not actually ever see the man talking until the end of the opening sequence. You see lily a lot in the film just like the girl in When a stranger calls. They are similar in the way they dress with the costumes being normal up to date trend in the fashion. This is showing that the film is current and still relevant in what can and does happen in real life. I was trying to send a message in my opening sequence that you should be careful who you talk to and who you know because you don't know how dangerous some people can be which is what When a Stranger Calls is trying to say aswell.

The similarities between both girls in the film are that they are both around the same age and they both start of being confident but as soon as trouble comes they start to panic as a young girl would in real life. The appearance of them comes over as they are panicking with a lot of close up screen shots which lets us see a glimpse of their reactions and pulls the audience into the film more feeling like they should do something, it also makes it quite jumpy and one edge.

They story of When a Stranger calls is different but has the same moral because it is about a girl who travels to a house far away to babysit two children whereas mine is about lily coming home from school and being home alone. Then the stories beginning to come similar when the phone starts ringing and the men getting into the house.

Overall I think the two Characters are near enough in the same situation and is a perfect similarity to my Opening Sequence.

EVALUATION - question 1

OPENING SEQUENCE
SCREENSHOTS

the title of the film - forgot will stalk
I chose the name forgot will stalk because of story line of my opening sequence. The story is of a boy that liked a girl a lot but she would never notice him or talk to other boys and it started to make him angry. So he started to get her to notice him when he kept calling on unknown and making her wonder and stop to think someone keeps calling. He waited till she was home alone and would then find a way into the house after keep harassing her and kill.

setting & location
The setting and the location of the film was important in the film because it had to be set in a house to make sure the effect was there of a stalker coming to the girls home. I wanted to make sure that there was things in there which would of been normal in a house like a tv, sofa, stairs etc to make it looks as the girl was just sitting at home relaxing watching tv. I filmed it during the day but really should of maybe filmed it as it was getting dark so that there was more of an effect because things tend to be scarier when it is darker. I was based my opening sequence on a film that is a similar story line to it "when a stranger calls". I wanted it to be in a normal house so that it looked more real because most horror films are all set in normal places which makes it more tense because it starts become more real and like real life.

     SHOTS OF THE SETTING

WHEN A STRANGER CALLS - 2006 REMAKE

costumes & props

The was not many costumes used because only two people were in the film. The girl that was the main part was dressed in casual clothes as though she had come in from college or a day out with a jumper and trousers on. The stalker at the end part of the opening sequence was dressed in all back so that there was no identity given about the person and all you saw was some dressed in black.

There was many props used in the sequence and one of the most important one was the mobile phone which is important because it is the key of the whole film. Also i used things like remotes, tv etc.

It was thought about and considered in what everyone should be wearing and what props should be used to make the film make more sense because there was some footage that was lost so i had to play around with it to make it make sense. The use of the props helped with this.

camerawork and editing
The opening sequence was filmed on a normal camera and not much camerawork was done whilst actually actually filming the film. The camerawork and editing is a very important to making the film stand out and keep the audience interested and obviously without the camera you have no film.  To get the best camera angles and shots I watched different horror films to see what way they filmed there films. In my film i used a lot of Close up shots. Long shots, full shots, medium shots and some continuity shots to get the best angles to make the film look scarier. Having all these shots helped to make more film more effective example when the phone was ringing it had a close up shot with a strobe effect making it more tense. On my video I used cuts and added a voiceover, this was to add an effect and keep the opening sequence flowing this was done on Adobe Premiere Pro.

EDITING SHOTS

title, font & style
I used a plain and simple font on my opening sequence because I did not want to take the attention of the footage and I feel that some exaggerated fonts make horror films look gimmicky. I also kept it the same font from the beginning to keep it professional so that it looks like it is still the same film. I think it has worked well and has made it more effected. By using a simple font it makes it look more modern and an up to date film rather than using older fonts that can date it.

story and how the opening sets up
My film was about a boy that wanted to see this girl who he really liked. The girl was never interested and was meeting other boys. He was a confused person and is not really all there and feels when he doesn't get something he wants he can turn nasty. When the girl is home alone and all on her own he decides to go to her house and stalk her. The story is based around the phone because it keeps ringing and is the centre and moral of the film.
